Social Skills

The social skills class provides each member of the Diversified Occupations Program (D.O.) with a common language intended to help them deal with issues of adolescence and problems they may encounter when dealing with their parents, teachers, and peers.  Since every student of this program is required to take this course, the scripts outlined by the Asset Program serve as a common language for all.  The basic eight skills taught in this program include giving positive feedback, giving negative feedback, accepting negative feedback, resisting peer pressure, problem solving, negotiating, following instructions, and conversation skills.  This program provides videotapes and study guides that outline the steps necessary to successfully complete each skill.  Students summarize each skill, outline the steps of each behavior, and act out role-plays with classmates.
