The staff and students of D.O. Program create and participate in a number of fundraising activities throughout the year. Money raised from these events helps fund class trips , Driver’s Education class, cross-country skiing physical education, guest speakers, program supplies, and tools for the afternoon work experience programs. We require students (and often parents) to participate in these activities because we believe it instills in our students a sense of ownership in their own learning, a belonging to the program, and increased individual self-worth and self-confidence. Fundraising activities include operating concession stands at various athletic events; the annual D.O. Indoor Yard Sale; the Science class Skulls Project; D.O. Night at Whirlie’s World; letter writing campaign to various community organizations; Pizza sales; Rachel’s Chocolate Chip Cookies; and more.
